IR Tribunal directed to settle Mari Petroleum’s appeal within 45 days

ISLAMABAD: A single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue to decide Mari Petroleum Company Limited’s appeal within 45 days.

The court also restricted the Large Taxpayers Unit from recovering outstanding taxes of Rs 46.5 million along with fine of Rs 2.4 million from the company.

Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC issued these directives, adding that the LTU, Islamabad must abstain from recovering penalty amount from the appellant.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Mari Petroleum Company Limited and disposed of the appeal with the said directions.

The appellant had challenged the LTU’s order, dated May, 2014. The LTU had issued the order under the Sales Tax Act.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) LTU’s chief commissioner, Inland Revenue (IR) commissioner , IR-Audit commissioner , and ATIR were made respondents in the case.
