TEHRAN: Iran has exported more than 10 billion dollars of non-oil products and gas condensate from Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2011), an oil ministry official said here on Tuesady. The Mehr news agency quoted Seyyed Pirouz Mousavi, managing director of PSEEZ as saying that more than USD 4 billion of gas condensate has been exported from Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in the mentioned period. He noted, “More than 7.186 million tons of gas condensate worth over USD 4.53 billion has been exported from the Special Zone during that period, showing a 53 percent increase compared to the same period last year,” he added. Mousavi said that export of non-oil products has increased 64 percent during this period compared to the similar period of last year to exceed 5.55 million tons.
Iran sits on the world’s second largest natural gas reserves after Russia and is trying to grow its gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments, especially in its South Pars gas field. The field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in the Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, North Dome, are in Qatar’s territorial waters. The Iranian gas field has 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas (about eight percent of the world’s reserves) and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) resources. Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) was established in 1998 for the utilization of South Pars oil and gas resources and encouraging commercial activities in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical industries. This zone is located the Persian Gulf coast and 300 Km. East of Port of Bushehr and 570 Km. West of the Port of Bandar Abbas and approximately 100 Km. away from the South Pars Gas Field (Continuation of the Qatar’s Northern Dome).
