The newspaper, quoting Pakistan’s Foreign Office, said that Pakistan currently imports 74MW of electricity from Iran for its coastal Makran division. It further said that the two countries were in the process of finalizing a deal for the construction of phase-1 of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

In the first phase, a pipeline would be laid from Gwadar to Nawabshah while in the second phase, Pakistan would work on the 80-km-long stretch of the pipeline linking it with the Iranian border.

The Foreign Office further said that both countries have also agreed to set up two additional border crossing points Mand-Pishin and Gadb-Reemdan. The crossing point at Gadb-Reemdan would reduce the distance between Gwadar deep-sea port to Iran’s Chabahar, it concluded.
