TEHRAN: Iran and Uzbekistan should expand their trade relations, said Valiollah Afkhami-Rad, the director of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI).

Afkhami-Rad made the remarks in a meeting with Uzbek Ambassador to Iran Bahador Abdullaev, in Tehran on January 6, to explore ways for bolstering Iran-Uzbekistan trade ties, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

Iran and Uzbekistan have already signed some fruitful deals in different areas such as transportation and insurance which should be soon put into operation, the Iranian official stressed.

Iran intends to boost its trade ties with the regional countries including Uzbekistan in the post-sanctions times, he added.

Abdullaev, for his part, expressed gladness over expansion of his country’s relations with Iran and called for more meetings with the Iranian officials to expand bilateral ties in all areas.

“Iranian fishery sector is highly welcomed in Uzbekistan and we also need Iran’s help in the industrial sector”, the ambassador noted.

Uzbekistan was the 28th leading importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Iran exported $103.77 million of non-oil goods to Uzbekistan and imported $63.3 million of non-oil goods from the country.
