Iranian ports handle 13pc increase in freight in August

TEHRAN: Iranian ports recorded a 13 per cent increase in the amount of goods loaded/unloaded during August compared to the figure for the same month in 2015, said a report.

A total of 23.83 million tonnes of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded in 25 ports across the country, according to latest figures released by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organisation, in the mentioned period, added the Iran Daily News report.

The figures further suggest that the volume of the non-oil products (loaded and unloaded) increased by 2 per cent, while the figure for oil products went up by 19 per cent, it said.

In the mentioned period, 18.584 million tonnes of oil and non-oil products were handled by the country’s ports.

Also in the same period, 13.591 million tonnes of oil products were loaded. According to the statistics, 1.687 million tonnes of oil products were unloaded in the mentioned period.

Iran also unloaded 3.556 million tonnes of non-oil products at its ports during the one-month period, added the report.
