Iranian woman arrested in smuggling attemp

COLOMBO: Customs sleuths at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Wednesday arrested a 51-year-old Iranian woman who allegedly attempted to smuggle foreign currency and gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.5 million to Doha, Qatar. She had undeclared foreign currency to the tune of Rs. 11 million in Saudi riyal, Iranian riyal, US and Canadian dollars in her possession.

The officers also seized 300 grams of gold worth Rs. 1.5 million from the woman, said Sri Lanka Customs spokesman Dharmasena Kahandawa.
