BAGHDAD: Iran and Iraq signed a deal in 2013 that would allow natural gas from South Pars Gas Field in Iran to flow into Iraq. As a result, Iran laid 100 kilometeres of pipeline that will export 5 million cubic meters (MCM) of natural gas every day during the first stage of the project.
An Iranian official has reported natural gas has already been exported to Iraq and is expected to create $3.7US billion per year in revenues. The agreement indicates 25 mcm of gas will be delivered to Sadr, Baghdad and al-Mansouryah power plants through a 270 kilometer pipeline.
The managing director of National Iranian Gas Transmission Company, Mohammad Ali Emam stated to Shana news on Sunday, “the pipeline is complete on the Iranian side and will be soon inaugurated by senior Iranian officials to start pumping gas into Iraq.”
