WASHINGTON: The unemployment rate in Iredell rose slightly in December, according to a new report from the NC Department of Commerce. The number increased to 4.7 percent from November’s 4.1 percent. In a labor force of 85,061, 3,990 people were listed as unemployed for the month. In November 3,799 people were unemployed in a workforce of 84,782. Compared to December 2015, the unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a percentage point, from 5 percent.
Iredell is ranked 30th out of 100 counties in the state for lowest unemployment, and is one of only 42 counties with a rate below 5 percent. Iredell ranked 23rd in the state in November. Statewide unemployment for December was 4.9 percent. The numbers were not seasonally adjusted. Unemployment numbers for January will be released March 13.
