Ireland customs seizes herbal cannabis worth €1.7m at Dublin Port

DUBLIN: Ireland customs service seized 85kgs of herbal cannabis at Dublin Port with an estimated street value of €1.7 million.

The drugs, destined for a premises in Dublin’s north inner city, were discovered when officers scanned a container of animal feed which highlighted anomalies in the information provided with the shipment.

Meanwhile, gardaí seized approximately 150 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €120,000 after searching a house at Cherrymount, Avoca, Co Wicklow.

iA large amount of equipment used for growing cannabis was also recovered and a 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Pearse Street Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
