Ireland police arrest woman over €70k cocaine trafficking

MULLINGAR: A woman is being held on suspicion of drug trafficking after gardaí in Co Westmeath seized €70,000 worth of cocaine.

Gardaí in Mullingar made the discovery while patrolling the M6 at around 2.30pm on Monday.

According to a Garda spokesperson, a car was flagged down along a stretch of the motorway during a traffic stop.

On searching the vehicle the gardaí discovered one kilo of cocaine, subject to a full analysis, with a street value in the region of €70,000.

The female driver and sole occupant of the car was arrested and taken to Mullingar Garda Station.

The 50-year-old is being detained for questioning under the provisions of section two of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
