Irrigation Dept recovers more than Rs28m abiana

MULTAN: The Punjab Irrigation Department recovered more than Rs28 million water rates (abiana) from growers during the Rabbi season 2014-15.

According to Irrigation sources, the department’s teams recovered water rates Rs28,325,300 from growers in four districts of irrigation Multan zone. This recovery included over Rs 3 million from Multan, over Rs 13 million from Lodhran district, over Rs 15 million from Vehari district and over Rs 8.3 million from Pak Pattan district during the Rabi season 2014-15 from July I, 2015 to Nov-30,2015.

Another Rs 311,000 water charges (tawan) were also recovered from four districts including Rs 42,800 from Multan,Rs 183,800 from Lodhran, Rs 50,000 from Vehari and Rs 34,300 from Pak-Pattan under Multan zone during the five months of Rabbi season 2014-15.

The irrigation teams have continued raids to control water pilferage across the region and to provide water to tail-end growers, sources added.
