Irrigation dept recovers over Rs5.4m abiana from growers

MULTAN: The irrigation department recovered over Rs 5.4 million water rates (Abiana) from growers during September 17 of Rabbi season 2015-16.

According to Irrigation official sources, the teams of irrigation department recovered water rates over Rs 5.4 million from growers in four districts of the Multan zone. A sum of Rs 492,618 water rates was recovered from Multan, about Rs 1.5 million from Lodhran, 3.2 Million from Vehari and Rs 231301 from Pak Pattan during the Rabbi season 2015-16 (Sept-2017).

Meanwhile, over Rs 77876 water charges (Tawan) was also recovered from four districts, including Rs 40191 from Lodhran, Rs 13500 from Vehari and Rs 24185 from Pak Pattan district during above the said period while no recovery from Multan district reported. The irrigation teams continued raids to control water pilferage across the region to provide water to tail-end growers properly, the sources concluded.
