Irrigation Dept recovers Rs156m abiana from 4 districts

MULTAN: The Punjab Irrigation Department has recovered over Rs 156 million water rate (abiana) from farmers during the Rabbi season 2013-14 and Khareef 2014.

According to sources, the department recovered water rates from four district of the Multan zone which included Rs37m from Multan district, over Rs 10 million from Lodhran, over Rs 62m from Vehari and over Rs 40 million from Pak Pattan during Rabi season 2013-14 and khareef 2014 till April-2015.

Meanwhile, the teams of Irrigation Department raided various places in four districts, including Multan, Lodhran, Vehari and Pak-Pattan, and recovered over Rs 10 million special charges (Tawan) from water pilferers during the Rabbi season 2013-14 and Khareef-2014.
