Islamabad ASO impounds truck loaded with banana, apple, jackfruit

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad seized 2,392 kilogram of smuggled banana, apple and jackfruit. The customs staff auctioned them off for being perishable items within two hours of the seizure.

According to Deputy Collector ASO Ansir Anis that on a tip-off forwarded by Collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad Dr. Arslan, the ASO set up a picket at the entry point of Islamabad and intercepted a Mazda truck coming from Azad Jummu Kashmir (AJK).
The ASO asked the possessor to show the legal documents of the goods but he failed to do so. The ASO impounded the goods and brought them to the state warehouse for further investigation.
With the permission of Collector MCC Islamabad, the Auction Cell of Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad auctioned banana, apple and jackfruit against Rs0.2million and imposed a fine of Rs150000 on the possessor of offending vehicle to carry smuggled goods.
An FIR has been lodged against the tax evaders and offending vehicle and the case forwarded to I&P Department for further investigation.
