Islamabad Customs holds destruction ceremony of impounded items & narcotics

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad held a destruction ceremony of seized goods and narcotics here at the Margallah Islamabad dry Port on 18th of April FY17-18.

According to details given by Collector, Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad, Irfan-u-Din that such ceremony is mostly organized on the International Customs Day, 26th of January, every year but this year, due to certain reasons, the said ceremony was postponed by Wednesday.

He said the said ceremony was attended by police, district administration and other agencies including Directorate General of Customs Intelligence (Customs), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Deputy Commissioner ICT Administration, Directorate of Excise and Taxation and Anti-Narcotics force (ANF).

The ceremony was conducted and supervised by Ishafaque Khan, Additional Collector, MCC Islamabad, Additional Collector, Airport, Nisar Phularwal and Assistant Collector concerned. During the destruction, contraband goods, including 6010 bottles of liquor, were destroyed by a bulldozer while 4958 kilogram of hashish and 15.06 kilogram of heroin along with other confiscated goods were burnt.
Expired Intoxicant syrups, made of chemicals, and many other items were burnt. To avoid any unpleasant incident including the theft of goods, foolproof security arrangements were made. The officials of fire brigade were also present to avoid any incident.
