Islamabad customs impounds smuggled sports car worth Rs03.00m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Car Cell of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad impounded a Non-Duty Paid (NDP) Mazda RX-7 sports car valued Rs03.00million from Gulzar-e-Quaid Rawalpindi on Thursday.

According to Superintendent Car Cell Chaudhry Safdar, the vehicle was intercepted on Link Road Rawalpindi and impounded on a tip-off shared by Collector MCC Dr. Arslan. The car bore no registration number but its Chassis number was FD-35-305785 modelled 1995.

Superintendent Safdar told Customs Today that the Anti-Smuggling Squad conducted a raid under the supervision of Assistant Collector Car Cell (Preventive) Majid Hussain Gaad.

The squad reached the place in morning and started waiting for the owner of the car. The squad had to wait from morning to evening but owner did not appear. After a long wait, the squad got permission from the headquarters to take it to the state ware house. The owner is reported to have escaped.

The customs authorities said the car was not registered at the Excise and Taxation Department. The MCC Islamabad Car Cell is making significant progress against the NDP vehicles which has reduced the trend of smuggling to a great extent, superintendent said. The case has been registered under the Customs Act-1969 where as an FIR has also been registered and further investigations are underway with the Investigation and Prosecution Department.
