Islamabad Customs takes three smuggled vehicles & items into possession in third week

ISLAMABAD: The Customs ASO Islamabad generated Rs10.22million by impounding contraband goods and offending vehicles during third week of April FY17-18.

According to details explained by Assistant Collector, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad, that the ASO showed satisfactory performance during above said period. The ASO took into possession three offending vehicles. The worth of the impounded offending vehicles is estimated at Rs3.1million.
The ASO seized various smuggled items during different seizures intercepted on GT Road and Motorway. During said cases, the ASO Islamabad confiscated various goods worth Rs7.125million.
Assistant Collector explained that the ASO Islamabad impounded Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) and offending vehicles and foreign origin smuggled goods priced at Rs65.73million during the month of March FY17-18. Gaad added that, during the month of March, the ASO Islamabad seized four NDP vehicles valued at Rs6.5million besides taking into possession 31offending vehicles worth Rs29.900million.
Under the guidance of Chief Collector North and Collector MCC Islamabad, the ASO launched a crackdown on Kashmiri perishable smuggled goods during third quarter (January to March) and onwards. A huge revenue of around Rs532million has been added to the national exchequer through seizures of illicit trade during July to April FY17-18 while anti-smuggling activity is still going on to turn the notorious elements to the genuine business.
