Islamabad dry port collects Rs 1,149m till Nov 15

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad dry port collected Rs 1,149 million in the wake of customs duty on the clearance of 997 containers consisting of imported items during first four and half month (July to November 15) of the current fiscal year 2016-17.

According to details, the dry port cleared 143 containers consisting of foreign origin fabric during November 1-15, 2016 and collected Rs 164.501 million as customs duty during the same period.

During October 2016, the dry port cleared 211 consignments and collected Rs 262 million as customs duty during the said period, while it cleared 202 containers and collected Rs 289.208 as customs duty during September 2016. Most of containers came from China and others from other countries.

During August, it collected Rs 275.659 million as customs duty on the clearance of 302 import-oriented containers and in July, it generated Rs 158.624 million under the head of customs duty on the clearance of 202 containers.

Officials said Customs North Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib has directed the staff of dry port to settle the issues of business community on a priority basis, as the revenue of the port will increase if business community feels comfortable to work with Islamabad dry port. They added that customs officials were providing maximum facilities to the importers.

They added that level of exports is low at this dry port and it should be increased so our local products could get reach in foreign markets. They said that government was taking measures for promoting the export to other world in order to generate foreign exchange.
