Islamabad dry port needs forensic lab to facilitate traders: AC Amanat Ali

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad dry port urgently needs a forensic laboratory to examine criminal cases, Assistant Collector Amanat Ali Khan said on Friday.

Talking to Customs Today, the assistant collector said that the the importers and exporters have to pay extra charges for transportation of consignments for lab examination of goods. They can save time and money if their consignments are examined at the same dry port (Islamabad) where they file the Goods Declaration.

He said: “We have to send consignments of chemicals  to different cities like Lahore and Taxila for forensic tests. This is a time consuming job. The importer have to wait for four to five days for the results. If the lab facility is available at the dry port Islamabad, the job will be done in one day.”

The businessmen always prefer to spend minimum time to transport his consignment to markets for retailing because some time demand of market decreases due to delay.

He said that the dry port send its consignments to different labs according to item, it is big demand of importers and exporters to make forensic lab at dry port Islamabad.

Imanat said that due to conjunction at dry port Islamabad the containers get blocks and it is a main hurdle for custom staff to check and examine the containers, in this regard letter has been written to Railways ministry to make proper sheds as for as provide enough space for containers.

He said that dry port refer around 50 GDs daily to different forensic labs, and a handsome amount goes to other hand which can be added in revenue of dry port Islamabad.
