ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Dry Port is likely incur losses of million of rupees as the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf is preparing to arrange a sit-in from November 2, 2016, officials said.
Assistant Collector Dry Port Amant Ali Khan said that business community is afraid of the sit-in and is diverting their consignments to other Custom stations for clearance.
He said that the dry port will remain open but business activities could stop because businessmen will not bring their consignments here at Margalla Dry Port. The entrepreneur are trying to clear their consignments from Karachi.
The Assistant Collector added that most of businessman expected that they will load there consignments from Karachi port after twenty days of Dharna.
When Customs today contacted with members of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) they show their concerns regarding upcoming Dharna and said that most of importers are extremely worried regarding their consignments.
The chamber member adding that they will try to divert there consignments to other dry ports so they can prevent from any mishap. The importers will suffer with additional charges of demurrage which will cost almost $40 per container per day, but our consignments will be safe if we stop them at Karachi dry port.
The ICCI member said that during last Dharna we was locating our costly consignments after 20 day of finishing of Dhrna, so we cannot make any risk to bring our consignments here at Islamabad dry port due to Dharna.
