ROME: The Salini Impregilo Group has signed a contract to build Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor.
The 770m euro deal includes 716m for construction and over 53m for operation and maintenance. It regards the design and construction of one of the sports complexes in which FIFA World Cup 2022 final tournament will be played.
The group, in joint venture with Galfar and Cimolai, beat rivals from France, Austria, India and Asia in an international competition which lasted several months before a shortlist and the final choice. The project was awarded by Aspire Zone responsible for development of sports infrastructure in the country.
The stadium can accommodate 70,000 spectators, with an area of 200,000sqm; an auxiliary building for security and administrative work and a centre for electromechanical and distribution work.
The stadium, which will be ready by September 2018, will have a unique design: the project is allegedly inspired by Bayt Al Sha’ar, the black and white tent traditionally used by nomadic people in Qatar seen as symbol of hospitality for desert travellers. The design responds to the Qatari concept to mark the country’s cultural and historical along with highly innovative technical and engineering aspects.
Particular relevance, among other things, focus on solutions adopted to provide ideal climatic conditions for players and spectators in an environment with high temperatures and extreme temperature changes daily and seasonally.
