Italy’s business confidence weakens in May

ROME: Italy’s business sentiment weakened unexpectedly in May, monthly survey results from the statistical office Istat showed Friday. The business confidence index fell to 102.1 in May from 102.7 in April. A similar lower reading was last seen in February. Economists had forecast the reading to rise to 103.

The consumer sentiment index dropped to 112.7 in May from 114.1 in the previous month. This was the lowest score since August 2015, when the reading was 109.5. The score was forecast to improve to 114.5 in May.
