NEW YORK: Two people were arrested after Ithaca Police found one of them to be in possession of 168 bags of heroin, during a routine traffic stop.
An Ithaca police officer initiated a routine traffic stop of a car near the intersection of North Albany Street and West Buffalo Street.
The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Jahearl Martin was found to driving with a suspended license.
While speaking to Martin, officers smelled the strong odor of marihuana inside the vehicle.
Martin was ultimately found to be in possession of a small amount of marihuana as well as 168 bags of heroin packaged for sale.
Another passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Kentisha Harris, was arrested after providing false identifying information to officers.
A third passenger in the vehicle fled the area and a fourth passenger in the vehicle claimed to not to have any knowledge of any of the other people in the vehicle, including the subject who fled the vehicle. This fourth passenger was dispersed from the area without incident.
Martin and Harris were transported to the Ithaca Police Department for booking.
Martin was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, class B felony. Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, unclassified misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of Marihuana, a violation.
Harris was charged with False Personation, a Class B Misdemeanor.
Harris has posted $225 cash bail and was released on an appearance ticket. Martin was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and taken to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond bail.
