LONDON: Jaguar’s brand director Steven de Ploey has confirmed that the F-Pace luxury SUV will make its first public appearance at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before going on sale later in the 2015 or at the start of 2016.

Styled after the 2013 Jaguar C-X17 concept car, the F-Pace will use a Range Rover-based aluminium platform dubbed iQ[Al], which will also see service in Jaguar’s incoming XE midsize sedan.

Powertrain variants have yet to be confirmed, but a performance variant powered by the F-Type’s 280kW/460Nm supercharged V6 is rumoured.

The F-Type’s 5.0 litre 364kW/625Nm supercharged V8 could also feature, if Jaguar can figure out how to squeeze one in.

A more sedate range of diesel and petrol fours and sixes borrowed from the XE are also likely, with power outputs ranging from 147kW to 250kW. All models are expected to make use of Jaguar’s familiar ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic.

Measuring roungly 4270mm long, the F-Pace is marginally bigger than the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Lexus NX.

However, a slightly sloping roofline means it’ll also rival sportier offerings like the BMW X4 and Porsche Macan.

Expect to hear more about Jaguar’s first-ever SUV as we draw closer to the Frankfurt Motor Show.
