WASHINGTON: The Jamaica Customs Electronic Payment service, ASYCUDA, is back to full operational mode after being down for almost two days, Andre Williams, the ASYCUDA programme manager confirmed on Friday. Williams said the service was once again available and that individuals could now make use of the system to carry out cargo-related procedures. “The service had become unavailable on Wednesday, resulting from emergency measures to restore access to the Customs’ automated system.
The ASYCUDA system was subsequently restored; however, the e-payment modality was inaccessible for use,” explained Williams. “We wish to thank our clients for their patience and understanding, while making use of alternative means of payment and while we completed maintenance activities to resolve the matter. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure you of our commitment to providing world-class customer service,” Williams said. On Wednesday, freight handlers and customs brokers expressed their frustration with the automated system, saying it was crippling operations and causing unwanted disruptions. Their comment came against the background of another malfunction of the system in December 2016, which lasted for two days.
