JAMAICA: Glen Christian to receive Business Excellence Award

KINGSTON: Glen Christian, chairman and chief executive officer of Cari-Med Limited, Kirk Distributors Limited, and Federated Pharmaceuticals, has been selected to receive the Business Excellence Award at this year’s Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Golden Krust Foundation Annual Excellence Gala. This will be held in New York on June 11.

The list of honorees includes Dr Suzanne Greenidge, OB/GYN, assistant clinical professor at Colombia University College of Physicians and Surgeons; Susan Taylor, editor emerita of Essence magazine, and founder and CEO of National CARES Mentoring Movement; Pulmonologist Dr Hector Estepan, and David C. Banks, president and CEO of Eagles Academy.

The Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Foundation was established in 2005 in memory of Ephraim and Mavis Hawthorne, the parents of the Hawthorne family. Together, Ephraim and Mavis owned and operated the Hawthorne & Sons Bakery in Jamaica, which has since evolved into the Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill restaurant chain.

The Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Foundation is committed to giving time and support to communities in the United States and the Caribbean through scholarships as well as social services. A major area of focus is on students who are facing challenges pursuing a college education. Proceeds from the gala will go towards college scholarships.
