KINGSTON: The police reporting the seizure of one Beretta 9mm pistol, one Sig Sauer 9mm pistol and 18 rounds of ammunition during an operation in Tangle River.
A total of 18 firearms and approximately 140 assorted rounds of ammunition have been seized in the division since the start of the year.
Two men were also were also taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
Their identities are being withheld at this time.
Operations Officer for the Division, Superintendent Gary Francis believes that the search for illegal weapons is of utmost priority for lawmen in their murder reduction programme for 2015.
“Everything will be done to diligently search for these weapons as well as apprehend the offenders, as firearms are usually the weapons of choice for murders in the division.
“The operation will be sustained and driven by intelligence to bring about the desired results,” said Francis.
During the weekend’s operational activities two men wanted for murder and gun related incidents were also picked up by lawmen.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area One, Paul Ferguson, said these intelligence-driven operational activities, coupled with the use of technology are geared towards curtailing criminal activities in the various divisions.
