Japan stocks flat at end, Nikkei 225 slips 0.10%

TOKYO: Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Insurance, Chemical and Machinery sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.10%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501), which rose 4.71% or 36.0 points to trade at 801.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nitto Boseki Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3110) added 4.45% or 27.0 points to end at 634.0 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (TOKYO:1332) was up 3.48% or 13.0 points to 387.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TOKYO:7011), which fell 4.51% or 31.6 points to trade at 668.4 at the close. Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7201) declined 4.10% or 50.5 points to end at 1181.5 and Nitto Denko Co (TOKYO:6988) was down 4.05% or 394.0 points to 9329.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1054 to 826 and 2 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9501) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.71% or 36.0 to 801.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.48% to 19.85.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.44% or 0.21 to $47.18 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.79% or 0.42 to hit $53.05 a barrel, while the December Gold contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $1096.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.27% to 123.58, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 136.72.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.18% at 96.80.
