TOKYO: Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Warehousing, Banking and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares higher. At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which rose 2.62% or 45.0 points to trade at 1760.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Shimizu Corp. (T:1803) added 2.17% or 22.0 points to end at 1037.0 and Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (T:6952) was up 2.16% or 32.0 points to 1512.0 in late trade. The worst performers of the session were Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333), which fell 8.66% or 284.0 points to trade at 2996.0 at the close. Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) declined 3.91% or 21.0 points to end at 516.0 and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:2502) was down 1.63% or 71.0 points to 4288.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2466 to 612 and 258 ended unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.69% to 22.18. Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.55% or 0.29 to $52.36 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.56% or 0.31 to hit $55.05 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.46% or 5.90 to trade at $1286.00 a troy ounce. USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 108.87, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 115.95. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 100.16.
