Japan stocks higher at end, Nikkei 225 adds 0.24%

TOKYO: Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Automobiles & Parts and Trading sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.24%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2269), which rose 17.00% or 3010.0 points to trade at 20720.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toyobo Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3101) added 7.61% or 14.0 points to end at 198.0 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6976) was up 6.54% or 97.0 points to 1581.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (TOKYO:1332), which fell 8.50% or 38.0 points to trade at 409.0 at the close. Ebara Corp. (TOKYO:6361) declined 6.83% or 37.0 points to end at 505.0 and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8253) was down 6.14% or 167.0 points to 2555.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1143 to 734 and 1 ended unchanged.

Shares in Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:2269) rose to all time highs; gaining 17.00% or 3010.0 to 20720.0.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.31% to 17.74.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.48% or 0.21 to $44.94 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $49.51 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1085.80 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.07% to 124.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 136.14.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 97.91.
