Japan stocks higher at end of session, Nikkei 225 jumps 0.30%

TOKYO: Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Manufacturing and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.30%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (TOKYO:6701), which rose 9.09% or 33.0 points to trade at 396.0 at the close. Meanwhile, The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503) added 7.99% or 124.5 points to end at 1682.0 and Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (TOKYO:4901) was up 7.85% or 358.0 points to 4919.5 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871), which fell 8.99% or 80.0 points to trade at 810.0 at the close. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TOKYO:6302) declined 6.43% or 43.0 points to end at 626.0 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TOKYO:7211) was down 4.95% or 55.0 points to 1055.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1282 to 596.

Shares in The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503) rose to 3-years highs; rising 7.99% or 124.5 to 1682.0. Shares in Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (TOKYO:4901) rose to 3-years highs; up 7.85% or 358.0 to 4919.5.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.87% to 17.57.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.99% or 0.48 to $48.04 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.95% or 0.51 to hit $52.80 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.49% or 5.30 to trade at $1083.40 a troy ounce.
