ISLAMABAD: The Japan government will give Rs507 million to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) for the development of its agricultural sector.
Japan will give this grant to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations to help it start a project for the recovery and development of the agriculture sector in Fata.
In line with the Fata Sustainable Return and Rehabilitation Strategy launched by the Fata Secretariat, the project is designed to benefit about 26,000 displaced families or 195,000 people who have returned to their native areas in Khyber and Kurram tribal regions.
Fata has been severely affected by unrest and military operations over the past decade. Earlier this year, the number of families displaced by fighting from different tribal areas was estimated at 260,000.
