TOKYO: Shipments of white goods in February grew 10.7 percent from a year before to ¥168.4 billion, up for the 10th straight month, the Japan Electrical Manufacturers’ Association said Tuesday. The rise chiefly reflected solid sales of energy-saving and high value-added refrigerators.
Shipments of white goods are recovering firmly after the blow delivered by the consumption tax hike in April 2014 from 5 percent to 8 percent, a JEMA official said.
Shipments of refrigerators jumped 24.7 percent to ¥29.5 billion and surged 23.2 percent to ¥26.3 billion for washing machines. Air conditioner shipments rose 4 percent to ¥43.1 billion, although unit sales decreased.
