FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Jhang has seized foreigin origin tyres worth Rs 3,50,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs193239 during an action.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Zulfiqar Ali received credible information about some smuggling activities. He immediately constituted teams to foil these attempts, The ASO staff intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no. FDS- 6195 Minthar Express near Rajna Chowk district Toba Tek Singh loaded with foreign origin tyres 70 numbers in different brands including (Br. Yokohama, Dunlop). The vehicle was coming from Sadiqabad and was heading towards Faisalabad.
Customs Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya asked the conductor namely Muhammad Nadeem son of Muhammad Hussain resident of tehsil Gojra district Toba Tek Singh to produce documents regarding legal import or lawful possession of the goods. But he remained failed. Therefore, the officials impounded the smuggling tyres under Section ( U/S ),168, 16, 18, and 32 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with SRO No 499(1)2009.
