Judge Faiz Rasool awards 26 days jail term to accused involved in jewellery smuggling

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has awarded 26 days imprisonment along with Rs 200,000 fine to accused Zeeshan and Aisha Aslam after they were found involved in smuggling of contraband jewelry and others goods.

On Thursday, after the confession of the convicts, Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi counted 26 days from when they were arrested as their imprisonment.

According to the FIR, on the intervening night of 9th and 10th of June 2015, Preventive Officer Noor Abbasi intercepted both the accused at the international arrival hall of Karachi airport. They had arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines flight no EK-604. While the accused were bound to leave for the custom clearance, gold jewelry weighting 2.99kg, LG brand mobile phones and 12 polythene packets as containers of gold jewelry were recovered from them.

A case was registered against both the accused under section 156 ( 1 )  (8 ) of the Customs act, 1969. They were arrested on 11th June and released on bail from 6 July 2016.
