June 2016 deadline: Power companies to be privatised, says Zubair

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Privatisation & Chairman, Privatisation Commission Muhammad Zubair, talking to media, has said that the government’s top priority is the energy sector and the process of privatisation of power companies will be completed by June 2016.

The minister said that power generation cannot be improved without privatisation of power supply companies. He said the government was trying to overcome the problem of circular debt, shortage of power supply, non-payment of power bills and other related problems but such issues cannot be addressed without privatisation. He said protection of employees would be ensured and talks were underway with them before completion of privatisation process.
