K-Electric defaulter of Rs 1.36 billion electricity duty‏

KARACHI: Though the K Electric Limited (formerly KESC) has been involved in power outages, over billing etc, the power utility itself is the defaulter of at least Rs 1.36 billion electricity duty since long, it is learnt.

In the recent days the performance of K Electric exposed when more than 1000 innocent people lost their lives due to heat stroke coupled with hours long load shedding in the metropolis.

The sources told Custom Today that the K Electric had to pay Rs 1.36 billion electricity duty.

According to Rule-5 (i) of the West Pakistan Electricity Duty Rules, 1964,  the amount of electricity duty due from a license for a certain month is to be paid within sixty days of expiry of that month to which the duty release.

The duty is collected by the Coal and Energy Department of the Sindh government and the duty is of just of year 2013 and it has reached more than three billions.
