AHMEDABAD: Kandla Port Trust has decided to go in for open competition to decide a logo for its major branding exercise after being renamed Deendayal Port Trust. On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an ex-post facto approval to renaming Kandla Port as Deendayal Port.”Ports in India are generally named after the city or town in which these are situated. However, the government, in special cases, after due consideration, has renamed the ports after great leaders in the past,” a statement said.
Ravi Parmar, chairman of Kandla port, told TOI, “We want to give creative individuals as well as institutions an opportunity through this open competition for selecting a logo. The person whose logo is selected will get a cash prize of Rs 2.51 lakh. Five other successful participants will also be duly recognized with citations and Rs 10,000 each.” Parmar said that the port trust decided to organize this competition as it would also give creative people an opportunity to associate with Kandla, which is the number one port in India in terms of cargo handling. “It will be a prestigious opportunity for the winner to associate his/her name with the port,” he said. The screening committee of experts will choose select entries and the shortlisted contenders will be called to make a presentation before the committee of senior officials of the port trust. Officials said that the logos and designs should be sent to its Gandhidham headquarters by October 27.
