KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has seized smuggled goods worth Rs792 million in a series of raids conducted during different Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) conducted during last 20 days.
Sources told that credible information was passed through Collector Enforcement Karachi Aamir Thaim to Additional Collector Amjad Rajpar regarding movement of smuggled goods. The anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Deputy Collector Muhammad Tariq enhanced vigilance and made several seizures.
The seized goods include 262,247 liters of Iranian petrol and diesel along with 14 oil tankers that were transporting them illegally. The enforcement staff also seized 21 non-customs paid cars and jeeps and other smuggled merchandise such as cosmetics, plastic dana, cigarettes, almonds and sugar.
The sugar was concealed in a bus that was intercepted by the enforcement staff. The smugglers were trying to evade taxes and duties by hiding the sugar under other goods.
The seized goods have been taken into custody for further investigation and legal action. The enforcement staff has registered cases against the smugglers and their accomplices.
