Karachi Enforcement impounds smuggled heavy bikes & vehicles worth Rs440.51m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has impounded non-duty paid/smuggled heavy bikes and vehicles worth Rs440.51 million. These vehicles also include government number vehicles.

Sources said that acting on credible information, an anti-smuggled squad led by Additional Collector Baasit Hussain, Deputy Collector ASO Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, and SPS Car Squad member Azhar Malik was constituted to expedite efforts against smuggled and non-duty-paid vehicles.

The anti-smuggling squad in collaboration with the intelligence agency, conducted two operations at storage facilities in Saddar and DHA Phase-I, Karachi. These operations resulted in the recovery of 37 old and used sports heavy bikes valued at Rs176.29 million.

In a separate operation in Malir Cantt, Karachi, the team seized 21 smuggled vehicles worth Rs264.22 million. The total value of the seized bikes and vehicles, including duties and taxes, is Rs440.51 million. The items have been taken into custody under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969, and legal notices have been issued under Section 171 of the Act.

Investigations are still underway to apprehend those involved in the smuggling network.
