Karachi Enforcement recovers 25 tons of smuggled betel nuts worth Rs25m from a godown

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement recovered 25 tons of smuggled betel nuets from a godown located near Sir Syed Chowk Scheme No 33. The market value of seized betel nuts is Rs25 million.

Sources said that Collector Collector Basit Abbasi received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts are dumped in a godown located Qauf Educational Academy, Sir Syed Chowk.

He immediately directed Deputy Collector Raza Naqvi to recover smuggled betel nuts.

An anti-smuggling squad was constituted which include Preventive Officers Saqlain Chadhar and Syed Asif, raided the godown.

During the operation, around 25 tons of smuggled betel nuts were recovered. The seized goods, valued at around Rs 25 million, were transported to the Collectorate’s warehouse using four rented Mazda vehicles for detailed examination and further legal proceedings.

An FIR is being lodged against the culprits in the Customs Court.
