KARACHI: Under the supervision of Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi and Deputy Collector Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Anti-Smuggling Organiztion (ASO) intercepted two buses and recovered huge quantity of narcotics. The operations was conducted at Mochko Check Post (CP) on Hub River Road.
The estimated value of the seized drugs and the impounded bus is Rs31.66 million in international market.
Sources said that after receiving credible information, customs anti-smuggling squad intercepted an Al-Habib Coach bearing registration number BTA-121.
During detailed examination of the luggage compartment, customs anti-smuggling squad discovered 3.6 kilograms of marijuana (commonly known as weed). The illicit substance was tactfully concealed among passengers’ belongings. As a result of this operation, one individual has been apprehended.
In a separate incident that occurred on July 15, 2024, the same anti-smuggling squad intercepted an Al-Mumtaz Coach bearing registration number JG-5645. Acting on credible intelligence, they searched the bus and found 5.4 kilograms of marijuana hidden in the luggage compartment. Similar to the first case, one person was arrested during this operation.
The total value of the seized drugs and the bus is around Rs35 million.
First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and further investigations are still underway till the filing of this report.
It is pertinent to mention here that in May 2024 Customs Enforcement made 223 cases worth Rs764.8 million, which is 38 percent higher than cases made in May last year involving Rs554.28 million.
Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
