KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has struck big against smuggling gangs, recovering over Rs113 million worth of goods in a spate of raids. Headed by Chief Collector Enforcement Basit Abbasi, the group of officials has worked day and night to eliminate black market activities within the area. The raids were conducted under the supervision of master officers such as Collector Moinuddin Wani, Additional Collector Basit Hussain, and Deputy Collector Raza Naqvi.
During the night of March 4-5, 2025, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) launched a specific operation at the Old Sabzi Mandi Tyre Market based on information from an undisclosed agency. The operation was spearheaded by Assistant Collector Robail Khokhar, assisted by Superintendent Habib Meo and Preventive Officer Saqlain Chadhar, in collaboration with Sindh Rangers.
During the raid, the team also successfully seized 5,027 used and aged tyres, having an estimated cost of Rs. 75.5 million. This is an important milestone toward stopping the smuggling of illegal tires into the market.
In another raid, the ASO team, headed by Assistant Collector Bisma, raided godowns and shops at Al-Asif Square in Sohrab Goth, suspected of storing smuggled goods. They seized a huge amount of contraband goods, including:
4,850 packets of Indian Gutka (Z-21 and Adaab brands)
7,000 packs of foreign cigarettes
1,145 packets of Indian Naswar
These items worth Rs. 37.90 million were confiscated and placed under control. The operation was conducted with the cooperation of Sindh Rangers to allow for smooth action and ensure law and order.
