KARACHI: Tax collection from the empty and loaded vehicles has become a complex issue. Goods’ companies and drivers demanded that the government take back the decision of entry tax.

Karachi Goods Carrier Association General Secretary Shoaib Khan said that they never paid tax to enter the Sanani city. Khan further said that Rs 10 to 20 tax had been charged by the municipality in the past but now its officials are receiving tax of their choice.

“We are told that entry tax is increased so Rs 30 will be charged per vehicle. Municipality is making tens of thousands of rupees on monthly basis. We can afford Rs 10 to 20 but not Rs 30. We neither have been given any notification nor any letter in this regard. Entry fee has been imposed just after dissemination of news. We are stopped time and again not only on port, but also on the roads by the police for bribe. We appeal to the government to stop extortion in the name of tax. Otherwise we will take to streets,” said Khan.
