KARACHI: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Karachi has impounded two tankers loaded with smuggled Iranian diesel worth Rs21.3 million and arrested two persons. The tankers were also seized valued at Rs24 million.
Director General of I&I Faiz Ahmed lauded the performance of regional directorate of Customs I&I Karachi and directed to use all available resources to curb smuggling.
Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs I&I Karachi Engineer Habib received credible information regarding smuggling of Iranian diesel. He immediately directed Additional Director Afzaal Watto and Deputy Director Wasif Malik to take measures to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
The first tanker was intercepted which was loaded with 29,000 liters of Irani diesel. The market value of seized Iranian diesel and is Rs9.3 million, while the second tanker had 21,000 liters of the Iranian diesel worth Rs12 million.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation team arrested two persons and registered a case of smuggling. Further investigations are still in progress till the filing of this report.
