KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has impounded 1,000 smuggled laptops from a shop at Central Plaza worth Rs50 million.
Sources said that information was passed through Director Saquif Saeed to Additional Directors Inamullah Wazir and Nausheen Riaz to the effect that huge quantity of smuggled and non-duty-paid goods were dumped at a warehouse, Shop No.70, 9th floor of Central Plaza for further distribution.
The team of Customs I&I obtained search warrant, and search of the premises resulted in recovery of huge quantity of foreign origin assorted laptops packed in cartons.
As neither anybody came forwarded to claim the ownership of the aforesaid placed / recovered foreign origin laptops, nor anyone produce any legal documents in support of lawful import / possession, therefore, all the aforesaid recovered foreign origin assorted laptops packed in cartons were taken into the custody.
After passing the stipulated time period, neither anybody approached the office of Directorate General to claim the ownership of the aforesaid recovered / detained foreign origin laptops, nor anyone produce any relevant legal documents pertaining to the aforesaid detained laptops.
An FIR is lodged and investigations are underway till the filing of this report.
