KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) goods. The market value of seized goods is Rs50 million in international market.
Sources told Customs Today that credible information was received through the office of Home Minister Sindh by the Director Customs Intelligence Karachi Engineer Habib that smuggled goods are still flowing in from Quetta to Karachi.
After receiving the tip-off Additional Director Afzal Wattoo and Deputy Director Wasif Malik a team led by Assistant Director Saud Hasan and Principal appraiser Irshad Shah smuggling routes towards Karachi were kept under surveillance by the Customs Intelligence, Karachi with the help of Rangers and under the direct supervision of Additional Director and Deputy Director Anti-smuggling Organization. Two buses were spotted and impounded in the morning hours.
The operation led to recovery of huge quantity of smuggled goods including cigarettes, betel nuts, electronics, fabrics and other goods concealed in specially designed cavities. The value of seized goods including buses is more than Rs50 million.
The Director General Customs Intelligence Mr Faiz Ahmad Chadhar appreciated the efforts of Customs Intelligence and encouraged them to focus on information based crackdown against smuggling in the region.
