KARACHI: Karachi Port has frozen a proposed 5% tariff increase for the fiscal year 2026-27, a move aimed at reducing costs for businesses and supporting trade activity.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the decision would provide more than Rs500 million in relief to importers and exporters.

According to the minister, the tariff freeze is part of the government’s efforts to facilitate the business community under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Blue Economy vision and strengthen economic activity.

Chaudhry said the move is intended to lower operating costs for traders and industrialists while encouraging exports and commercial growth.

He added that keeping port tariffs unchanged would help maintain stability in port-related charges, improve trade competitiveness and support broader economic activity.

The minister said the government remains committed to business-friendly policies and will continue taking measures to ease the cost burden on the private sector and promote trade through Pakistan’s ports.
