WASHINGTON: Wheat bran exports from Kazakhstan turned down in April-May 2017. The country exported some 16.1 KMT of wheat bran in May, or 14% less than in May 2016 (18.6 KMT). Nonetheless, owing to a more active start of the export season, this year’s shipments outpace those seen in 2015/16. Kazakhstan supplied 162.9 KMT of wheat bran to foreign markets in September-May 2016/17, or 9% more than in the same period last season (149.4 KMT).

As before, the top importer of Kazakh wheat bran is Uzbekistan, which absorbed roughly 74% of total exports at the time. It is followed by Turkey with an export share of some 12%. China, having resumed wheat bran imports from Kazakhstan in October 2016, had purchased more than 10 KMT by June. Noteworthy is this season’s growth of purchases by Iran. Kazakhstan supplied 13.9 KMT of wheat bran to the Iranian market in the period under review, or almost two and a half times more than for the whole last season (5.7 KMT was exported there in MY 2015/16). According to UkrAgroConsult’s forecasts, wheat bran exports from Kazakhstan may total around 200 KMT in MY 2016/17. As a reminder, Kazakhstan exported 181.6 KMT of wheat bran last season.
