KBA President Amir Nawaz assaulted in Karachi amid canals issue

KARACHI: Karachi Bar Association (KBA) President Amir Nawaz Warraich was injured after he was attacked by unknown assailants on II Chundrigar Road in port city of Karachi.

The incident took place in limits of Mithadar Police Station on Tuesday night. Photos circulating on social media show blood stains on his white shirt as he is apparently in a hospital for treatment.

Reports said the KBA president was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment.

Warraich later issued a video statement revealing that he was attacked by six unknown men, adding that he was assaulted over his stance over the controversial canals issue.

He added that they will have to shut down the six canals, adding that there will no change in upcoming All Pakistan Convention scheduled for April 12.

He warned of closing Punjab border and railway tracks if no action was taken within 72 hours.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the SSP City in this regard.

He said that elements involved in the attack must be brought to justice and that the investigation should proceed effectively.
